Cheryl Penna - Functional Medicine Practitioner

Are you concerned about your health, confused about what to eat or do you need advice on foods and nutrients that will build, repair and nourish your body?

As a Functional Medicine practitioner, I view the body, its systems and its diseases differently from general medical practitioners. As a result I offer my clients a more integrated approach to addressing the cause of their condition, rather than symptom based treatment.

My primary focus is to help educate my clients on the benefits of foods, nutrients, herbs & lifestyle habits that nourish their body and promote long term health.  Investigations to help this process often includes; functional pathology testing, medical history, physical assessments such as BP, skin & body analysis, iris, tongue, hair and nail assessment and defining the goals you want to achieve from your treatment.

Treatment often includes a combination of therapeutic nutrients and traditional herbal preparations that work to restore balance as well as lifestyle and dietary advice that creates a health plan for vitality and longevity.

Herbal medicine can offer an important adjunct to support current medical treatment or be used as a primary treatment in conditions that medicine has been unable to treat.

Your initial consultation focuses on a comprehensive health assessment to identify any areas of imbalance that may be contributing to your current symptoms or long-term optimal health.

Cellular Health Analysis $65.00

Most of us use our birth age to determine how old we are.  In fact, this offers us little information on how well we are really ageing.  Our cellular age can be determined by measuring key bio-markers that reflect the state of our internal health.  Many factors influence our cellular health - our genes, the food we eat, the way we live and our environment.

In one simple quick test you can find out how your body is ageing and what area of your body you need to address.

You will receive a detailed report that will reveal not only the age of your body but also your level of body fat, active tissue mass, cellular hydration and the vitality of your cells.   Stress, poor diet, inflammation, toxicity & poor elimination, excess body fat and poor muscle mass all contribute to an increase in the age of your body.

This scientifically validated test will quickly let you know what you need to do to improve. Our Cellular Health analysis is then used to monitor your progress and to ensure positive change is taking place in all health parameters.

Nutritional Assessment - $65.00

Our clinical nutritional assessment provides you with a specific view of your current nutritional levels using a comprehensive questionnaire program.  It provides you with a graphical printout which indicates:

• Possible nutrient deficiencies.

• The presence of a functional disorder, such as allergy, bowel dysbiosis, digestive dysfunction and blood sugar metabolism.

• Indicates possible vitamin and mineral deficiencies

• Provides you with an optimal dietary plan based on your results.

Our Nutritional Assessment provides you with specific recommendations related to your individual requirements and can be used to monitor your progress during your treatment.

Clinical research

A health diet helps control high risk T2 diabetes better than what drugs can achieve alone.  Researchers at University of Otago NZ have found that given the right dietary advice and replacing refined grains with wholegrains, increasing lean protein rich foods and good fats in the diet allowed patients better control and management of blood sugar levels.

The Natonal Heart Foundation has made the following recommendations to improve CV health of all Australians.
